About Us
We are former TIME magazine employees and Al engineers, who hold great admiration for the generations of journalists and historians who have undertaken the task of selecting a Person of the Year. This individual is chosen for their profound influence on humanity during a given calendar year.
The selection of a Person of the Year fosters historical awareness and encourages reflection on the forces shaping our world. However, this process has always been conducted by humans. While editors apply intellectual rigor to their choices, their inherent human biases and agendas can influence the selection.
With the rise of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, we were intrigued by the possibility of leveraging these data-driven, potentially more objective tools to determine a Person of the Year. In essence, we wondered: what if “machines” made their pick for the most important human in the world?
This project is purely for education and aims to advance our understanding of AI's capabilities and its potential role in assessing human actions, skills, behaviors, and events.
